This pretty piece is a "benitier" i.e. a font for holy water that would typically adorn the base of a statue or crucifix. Made of porcelain, this has been trimmed and hollowed out - but never used.

Placed flat down, it resembles a clam shell rather than the little bowl it was destined to be used as.

This was salvaged from a French factory that produced religious icons and still bears remnants of the original powder used in the mould. It would ultimately have been painted or glazed but is still in its untouched original "fresh from production" state

Really unusual piece - would be great in a bathroom display! Sits flat so could either be displayed on a shelf or attached to a wall

Size: 12cm width
