This unusual piece is a "benitier" i.e. a font for holy water that would typically adorn the base of a statue or crucifix. Made of plaster, this is a very rare double bowl and would be great for displaying tiny trinkets.
This was salvaged from a French factory that produced religious icons and still bears remnants of the original powder used in the mould. It would ultimately have been painted or glazed but is still in its untouched original "fresh from production" state
