This pretty piece is a "benitier" i.e. a font for holy water that would typically adorn the base of a statue or crucifix. However........this is as it came out of the mold at the factory and has only had minimal trimming and hollowing out. As a result it resembles a clam shell rather than the little bowl it was destined to become.
This was salvaged from a French factory that produced religious icons and still bears remnants of the original powder used in the mould. It would ultimately have been painted or glazed but is still in its untouched original "fresh from production" state
Really unusual piece - would be great in a bathroom display! Sits flat so could either be displayed on a shelf or attached to a wall
