This truly is the definition of faded & fabulous
French display cushion originally covered in the deep red velvet - most of which has now worn away over the years
These cushions are increasingly hard to find. They are solid pieces filled with sawdust and were used variously for carrying the ring at a wedding and for the bride to display her wedding tiara after the big day.
Dating from the late 1800s, they often sat underneath a glass dome to protect them ("coussin de mariee" or "globe de mariee"). The cushion is edged with metallic braid with metalled tassels to each corner.
Condition: The velvet is very faded and worn in large parts.
Size: 20cm x 20cm x 14cm approx.
