Sweets for my sweet....
World War 1 sweetheart pin cushion
These charming cushions were produced in the first World War by wounded soldiers as they were recuperating in hospital. Once complete, they were sent home to wives, mothers and sweethearts as a token of love.
They often feature short mottos such as “Forget Me Not” or “Remember Me” as well as photos or flags. They are stuffed with sawdust and generally came in kit form which included the mottos, pins and beads. This one has had a photo added belatedly to the centre.
Condition: few pins missing but generally sound
Size: 18cm length approx.
